Viramune or Efavirenz regimens demonstrate comparable viral decay rate

A sub-study of the landmark 2NN trial found that HIV treatment regimens containing either Viramune (nevirapine) or efavirenz provide a comparable viral decay rate (VDR) over the first 2 weeks of treatment.

The VDR measures the decline in viral load concentration after the start of therapy. Additionally, virologic failure after 48 weeks in patients treated with the drugs was shown to be unrelated to a higher VDR. The results of the sub-study were presented at the 43rd Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
