Reticulated platelet assay helps identify HIV-related ITP

Diagnosis of ITP is currently "based on low platelet count and exclusion of clinical conditions rather than a specific diagnostic test," hematologists in Canada noted.
M.I.C. Gyongyossy-Issa and colleagues at the University of British Columbia "used the reticulated platelet (RP) assay to study ITP and thrombocytopenia associated with HIV infection (HIV-ITP)."
