AIDS group releases white paper urging new HIV prevention strategies

With World AIDS Day observations concluded for another year, AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) has announced the publication of "Changing How We Think: HIV Prevention Policy in the U.S.," a white paper outlining the current state of efforts to reduce HIV infections in the United States and providing recommendations for a new, comprehensive approach to future HIV prevention work.

Authors of the document suggested that despite public scrutiny and criticism, HIV prevention efforts in the U.S. have resulted in the decrease in HIV incidence from its peak of 161,000 new infections in 1984 to the current estimate of 40,000 new infections annually.
