Herpesvirus 8 and Epstein-Barr virus seropositivity among children compared

Scientists published a comparison of human herpesvirus 8 and Epstein-Barr virus seropositivity among children in areas endemic and non-endemic for Kaposi sarcoma in a recent issue of the Journal of Medical Virology.

"Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is the etiologic agent of Kaposi sarcoma (KS). Several studies indicate horizontal HHV-8 transmission among children in areas where KS is endemic, but few studies have assessed acquisition of HHV-8 by children in low seroprevalence areas.
