Geneva-based agency to provide India with funds to prevent AIDS

A Geneva-based fund said February 10, 2004, it was ready to give the Indian government US$26.1 million of assistance pledged toward its efforts to prevent the spread of AIDS.

About a year ago, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria pledged US$100 million to India to help fight AIDS. But disbursal was delayed by procedural hurdles.

On February 10, 2004, the Geneva-based body said it was ready to disburse the first tranche of US$26.1 million, to be spent over 2 years.
