Iowa City man convicted fourth time for transmitting HIV

An Iowa County jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding a man guilty of criminally transmitting HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

The April 13, 2004, verdict marks the fourth time this year that Adam Musser, 23, of Iowa City, has been found guilty of the charge.

In this case, moved to Marengo on a change of venue, he was accused of having sex twice with an Iowa City woman in December 2002. He had met the woman through mutual acquaintances at a Halloween party.

The woman, now 25, has tested negative for HIV, said defense attorney Kelly Steele. That, however, doesn't lessen the criminal charge.
