EBV may play role in pathogenesis of head and neck cancers in HIV infection

Epstein-Barr virus may play a role in the pathogenesis of head and neck cancers in HIV infection.

According to recent research published in the Journal of Laryngology and Otology, "Head and neck cancers have been described in patients with human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection. However the incidence, etiology and clinical features of the disease remain unclear. Patients with head and neck cancer and HIV were identified from a large HIV center. The incidence and clinical features were recorded, and the tumors were stained for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)."
