Recombinant growth hormone reduces visceral fat in HIV-related lipodystrophy.

"Recombinant human GH (rhGH) reduces excess accumulation of intra-abdominal adipose tissue (IAT) in lipodystrophic HIV-infected adults, whereas data in pediatric patients are lacking.

"The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of rhGH treatment on lipodystrophy in HIV-infected adolescents. The study is a prospective, 24-week open-label study of rhGH," scientists writing in the The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism report.
