Findings from the United States and Belgium advance knowledge in HIV/AIDS research

Reports from the United States and Belgium highlight recent research in HIV/AIDS.

Study 1: The HIV Vif and Vpr proteins play key roles in T-cell cytopathicity and cell cycle arrest.

"HIV type 1 (HIV-1) can cause G2 cell cycle arrest and death of CD4+ T lymphocytes in vitro and inexorable depletion of these cells in vivo," immunologists in the United States explained. "However, the molecular mechanism of viral cytopathicity has not been satisfactorily elucidated."
