Recent findings in HIV/AIDS described by S. Gharai and colleagues

"A rare case of bilateral multifocal choroiditis and optic neuropathy as the result of disseminated cryptococcal infection in a person with AIDS is described. A 30-year-old HIV-positive man presented with fever, headache, vomiting, and altered sensor rium," investigators in New Delhi, India report.

"Ophthalmological examination revealed bilateral multifocal choroiditis and optic neuropathy. Laboratory examination and imaging suggested a presumptive diagnosis of disseminated Cryptococcus. neoformans infection," wrote S. Gharai and colleagues.

The researchers concluded: "Therapeutic-response confirmed the diagnosis.'."
