Reports from University of Toronto, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences advance knowledge in HIV/AIDS gene therapy

New investigation results, 'Solid lipid nanoparticles enhance the delivery of the HIV protease inhibitor, atazanavir, by a human brain endothelial cell line,' are detailed in a study published in Pharmaceutical Research. "Protease inhibitors (PIs) exhibit low brain permeability. As a result, unchallenged HIV viral replication can lead to HIV-encephalitis and antiretroviral drug resistance," researchers in Canada report.
