2011 JAN 3 -- Research findings, 'Soluble factors from IL-1ß-stimulated astrocytes activate NR1a/NR2B receptors: implications for HIV-1-induced neurodegeneration,' are discussed in a new report. According to recent research published in the journal Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, "Astrocytes play an important role in astrocyte-neuron homeostasis. In HIV-1-infected brain, interleukin 1 beta (IL-1ß) activation of astrocytes contributes to neurodegeneration."
