CytRx Corporation (CYTR) is researching potential therapies for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig disease)using both orally administered small molecules and RNA interference (RNAi), one of the most talked-about recent scientific breakthroughs. ALS is a disorder affecting the function of nerves and muscles. Over 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year (15 new cases a day). It is estimated that as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time, with at least 120,000 people afflicted worldwide.
