The molecular mechanisms of the cholesterol-lowering agent Ezetimibe have been elucidated. "Intestinal cholesterol absorption is an important regulator of serum cholesterol levels," scientists in Germany explained. "Ezetimibe is a specific inhibitor of intestinal cholesterol absorption recently introduced into medical practice; its mechanism of action, however, is still unknown."
