Studies describe new findings in endocrinology research

Investigators in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States have published new endocrinology data. Study 1: A new subfield of endocrinology, dubbed intracrinology, describes the local formation of sex steroids. F. Labrie, CHU Laval, Quebec City, explained, "In postmenopausal women, all estrogens and nearly all androgens are made locally in peripheral target tissues from the inactive adrenal steroid precursor dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).
