Synovial cysts linked to uncovered hydroxyapatite-coated cup

Exposed hydroxyapatite-coated acetabular cups may promote synovial cyst formation after hip replacement surgery. "Synovial cysts arising from the hip are not common, but can develop in response to intraarticular derangement and increased intraarticular pressures," orthopedic surgeons in the United States noted. Nehme and colleagues at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation presented "a case of a compressive intrapelvic synovial cyst 3 years after a total hip replacement with a hydroxyapatite-coated acetabular component."
