Anti-PRSP efficacy of meropenem evaluated

The anti-PRSP efficacy of meropenem in South Korea has been evaluated.

"With the widespread emergence of antimicrobial resistance, combination regimens of ceftriaxone and vancomycin (C+V) or ceftriaxone and rifampin (C+R) are recommended for empirical treatment of pneumococcal meningitis," scientists there explained.

"To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of meropenem (M)," S.W. Kim and colleagues at Sung Kyun Kwan University "compared various treatment regimens in a rabbit model of meningitis caused by penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (PRSP)."
