Cold, flu threats don't worry mothers, according to study

More than half of mothers responding to a national survey said they are not worried about their children catching colds or flu; one in four will do nothing if the child falls ill with a cold, according to the Alliance for Consumer Education, the foundation that sponsored the study.

To help prevent colds and flu, many moms promote frequent hand washing (58%), and have their families take vitamins (36%). Just 23% said keeping their homes clean is important for family health. The time-honored "cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze/cough" was mentioned by just 35%.
