New cellulitis study results from S.R. Bababeygy et al described

"Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) preseptal cellulitis is an aggressive ophthalmic infection of increasing frequency," researchers in the United States report. "Previously reported cases were successfully treated with first line drugs such as vancomycin or Bactrim (trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole); however, such drugs have limited efficacy in treating cutaneous MRSA. The authors report the first 2 known cases of MRSA-mediated preseptal cellulitis that resolved with systemic linezolid and rifampin following failed intravenous vancomycin treatment after incision and drainage of the abscess," wrote S.R.
