Results of study show potential of RNAi therapeutics for ocular diseases

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (ALNY), a therapeutic RNA interference (RNAi) company, presented data from in vitro and in vivo studies on using RNAi to silence expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), a key mediator of angiogenesis in ocular diseases.

The abnormal over-expression of VEGF is linked to ocular neovascular diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy.
