The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), a U.S. medical society representing hospitalists, recently presented its 2005 national awards of excellence to 4 hospitalists whose work and research have contributed significantly to hospital medicine and to the betterment of hospital care across America. Hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients.
