Gen-Probe applies to use PROCLEIX TIGRIS System to screen donated blood for West Nile virus

Gen-Probe Incorporated (GPRO) has submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a 510(k) application for use of the fully automated, high-throughput PROCLEIX TIGRIS system to screen donated human blood, tissue and organs for West Nile virus (WNV) with the PROCLEIX WNV assay, the company announced. The PROCLEIX WNV assay was approved by the FDA in early December for use on the enhanced semi-automated PROCLEIX system (eSAS). Selected U.S. blood centers have used the TIGRIS system to screen about 3.6 million donations for WNV under Investigational New Drug applications since the summer of 2004.
