Japanese trial data show efficacy of monoclonal antibody on rheumatoid arthritis patients

Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, and F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., Basel, Switzerland, announced that the humanized antihuman IL-6 (interleukin-6) receptor monoclonal antibody Actemra (tocilizumab injection), co-developed by Chugai and Roche, has shown efficacy as a monotherapy in rheumatoid arthritis patients in a double-blind phase 3 trial conducted in Japan. The results were presented at The Japan College of Rheumatology (JCR) Annual Scientific Meeting held in Nagasaki, Japan.
