Experts Available to Discuss Patients, Hospitals Wrestle over Tumor Tissue

ExpertSource: TOPIC: Writing in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Stacy Burling describes the case of a woman who wanted samples of her own brain tumor tissue so she would be able to enter certain clinical trials. Instead, what she has gotten is "delay and disappointment." Although her experience is considered "unusual", she says she's seeing more complaints on message boards from patients having trouble getting tissue sent from one hospital to another.

The larger issue is who controls what happens to the bits of tumor tissue saved after cancer surgery (or in some cases, what happens when the hospital has failed to save tissue.)
