Potential for adjuvant radiotherapy doesn't sway women from reconstruction

Even though they may need additional radiation therapy, most female breast cancer patients in a Scottish study still opted for immediate breast reconstruction surgery.

Having an implant or tissue expander can complicate subsequent radiotherapy, and result in an unsatisfactory appearance of the breasts.

"Immediate breast reconstruction techniques include tissue expansion, latissimus dorsi flap with or without an implant, pedicled TRAM flap, and free tissue-transfer.
