Initiative helps low-income beneficiaries sign up for drug discount card

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tommy G. Thompson has announced an initiative that will target enrolling low-income seniors and people with disabilities in the Medicare-approved drug discount card program, so that they take advantage of discounts and $1200 over the next 18 months to pay for their prescription medicines.

While the Medicare-approved drug discount card program provides savings for all participants, seniors and people with disabilities who qualify for the $1200 credit - $600 in 2004 and $600 in 2005 - will reap the greatest benefits, Thompson said.
