Translational medical genomics company creates ethics committee

GenoMed, Inc., (GMED), a translational medical-genomics company that finds disease-causing genes in order to improve patient outcomes, announced the expansion of its scientific advisory board (SAB) to include key thought leaders in ethics, epidemiology, genetics-related health law, and policy.

GenoMed has created an ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) committee within its SAB to reflect the guiding principles of the Human Genome Project. During the sequencing of the human genome, money was set aside at the request of Dr. James Watson for research into the ethical, legal, and social implications of genomics.
