Study shows proton pump inhibitor Nexium helps patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

A new clinical study shows that the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) maintained normal gastric (stomach) acid levels in patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or idiopathic gastric acid hypersecretion (IGH). Results of the 12-month, multicenter study were presented at the annual Digestive Disease Week (DDW). Nexium is indicated for the treatment of GERD and for NSAID-associated gastric ulcers in as-risk patients and is under investigation for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
