In diabetic model, hyperphagia is linked to leptin resistance and NPY mRNA in arcuate nucleus

In a diabetic rat model, hyperphagia is association with leptin resistance and increased neuropeptide Y mRNA in the arcuate nucleus.

According to recent research published in the Journal of Neuroendocrinology, "The present study aimed to examine whether hyperphagia, which is frequently observed in type 1 diabetic patients and model animals, also occurs in type 2 diabetic Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats and, if so, to explore underlying abnormalities in the hypothalamus."
