The sex ratio among offspring of childhood cancer survivors is unaltered

There are no changes in the sex ratios of children born to radiation-treated childhood cancer survivors, apparently indicating that major genetic alterations did not occur as a consequence of radiation.

"It has been postulated that paternal gonadal exposure would increase the sex ratio (male-to-female ratio) by inducing X-chromosomal dominant lethals but that maternal gonadal exposure would decrease the sex ratio by inducing recessive sex-linked lethals.

"We therefore evaluated the sex ratio of children born to survivors of childhood cancer," investigators in Denmark report.
