Prescription drug settlement announced in Medicaid fraud cases

Pennsylvania attorney general Mike Fisher announced that his office has reached agreements, in principle, with GlaxoSmithKline and Bayer Corporation for concealing the existence of deep price discounts given to health maintenance organizations (HMOs) for the purchase of certain drugs and then failing to pay the state Medicaid programs millions of dollars of rebates based on these price discounts. Fisher said these settlements, which include 49 states and the District of Columbia, represent the largest national Medicaid fraud settlements ever, returning over $329 million to the states.
