Global poliomyelitis eradication and vaccination strategies have been reviewed in a recent issue of the journal Medecine Et Maladies Infectieuses.

According to published research from France, "The global poliomyelitis eradication initiative has been remarkably successful since its launching in 1988. The World Health Organization expects the last wild virus strains will be isolated in 2002, and this should lead to declaring the world polio-free in 2005."
