The mu opioid receptor has strong anti-inflammatory control in colitis models; MOR agonists may thus be beneficial.

According to recent research published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, "The physiologic role of the mu opioid receptor (MOR) in gut nociception, motility, and secretion is well established.
