French patients with type 2 diabetes possess high risk of cardiovascular disease

by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - A nationwide survey conducted in France revealed that complications of diabetes increasing heart disease risk, such as high cholesterol levels, hypertension, and poor glycemic control, occur frequently in type 2 diabetic patients.

Guillaume Charpentier at the Center Hospitalier Regional Gilles de Corbeil in France and fellow members of the ESPOIR Diabetes Study Investigators conducted a study to "evaluate in France in 2001 the therapeutic management and control of diabetes and of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes receiving specialist care."
