CDC: Flu activity widespread in 45 states

U.S. officials say that flu activity has reached widespread levels in all but five U.S. states.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the flu has reached widespread status - the CDC's highest outbreak level - in 10 states since mid-December: Alabama, Alaska, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Health departments in the District of Columbia and New York City also reported widespread flu activity, the CDC said. The agency said influenza-like illnesses are increasing overall, but are decreasing in some areas, including Texas and Colorado, two states that were hit particularly hard...
