Invalid vaccine doses would cost millions to fix

Children who receive some of their vaccine doses too soon may need to be revaccinated, at an extra cost of $10-$18 million a year, according to a new study. "The cost of revaccinating these children is substantial and may impact parents, physicians and vaccine purchasers," say Shannon Stokley, MPH, of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and colleagues. Their findings appear in the January 2004 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
