Genetic switch for maturation discovered

Working with fruit flies, researchers have discovered a genetic switch that appears to control an array of intricate processes required for the fly to mature from a slug-like larva to a mobile, sexually active fly.

The researchers said their discovery in the fly Drosophila could provide insights into how sexual maturation occurs in higher animals, including humans.
