Sublingual immunotherapy proven effective for administering allergy medicine

Research presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology has shown that sublingual immunotherapy, or placing drops under the tongue, can be a highly effective approach to administering allergy medications and is safe and effective in children under 5. A group of Italian researchers found that over a 3-year study period, a significant reduction in nasal obstruction, itching and cough, and a decreased need for symptom-relief medications in patients treated with sublingual immunotherapy compared with those treated with standard medications for allergic rhinitis and asthma.
