Published data supports gene linkage to vascular disease in diabetes

HaptoGuard, Inc., announced publication of the first data that demonstrate broad applicability of a new animal model for drug development based on the haptoglobin gene. Haptoglobin (Hp), an antioxidant protein secreted by the liver, scavenges hemoglobin released by red blood cells and inhibits hemoglobin-induced oxidative reactions associated with inflammation, as seen in diabetic vascular disease.
