Endurance walking test distances improve significantly for COPD patients after breathing Heliox 28

Breathing a special gas mixture called Heliox 28 may significantly improve the exercise performance of individuals with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). During an endurance walking test, the patients found that they could improve their walking distance by 64% with less shortness of breath. The results appear in a recent issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, published by the American Thoracic Society. Elizabeth A.
