Revascularization after verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a byproduct of angiogenesis. Researchers in Germany conducted a study "to evaluate the impact of verteporfin PDT on the induction of apoptosis in choroidal neovascular membranes (CNV) secondary to age related macular degeneration." K. Petermeier and colleagues, University of Tubingen, conducted a "retrospective review of 22 surgically excised CNV. Twelve of these patients had been treated with PDT 3-146 days previously.
