Regional HIV Seroprevalence Reported

The AIDS epidemic is sweeping out of control among crack cocaine smokers in the country's poorest neighborhoods, new data show.

Several reports presented at the 2nd National Conference on Human Retroviruses and Related Infections, held in Washington, D.C., January 29-February 2, 1995, sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology, demonstrate the vast differences in how the epidemic touches Americans' lives.

One study found that in New York City and Miami, Florida, 4 percent of crack cocaine users are becoming infected annually with HIV.
