Factor VIII Concentrations Associated with Thrombosis

High concentrations of factor VIII were found to present a strong increase in risk for thrombosis, researchers from The Netherlands reported.

Ted Koster, M.D., University Hospital Leiden, and colleagues performed a population-based patient-control study in order to clarify the roles of the ABO blood group, von Willebrand factor (vWF) and clotting factor VIII in the process of deep-vein thrombosis ("Role of Clotting Factor VIII in Effect of von Willebrand Factor on Occurrence of Deep-Vein Thrombosis," the Lancet, January 21, 1995;345:152-155).
