3TC/AZT Combination Trial Results Called "Breath of Fresh Air"

The combination of lamivudine (3TC) and zidovudine (AZT) has the most potent and longest lasting effect of any antiretroviral strategy yet tested in clinical trials, according to the results of four Phase II trials conducted in Europe and in North America.

Results from the trials were presented at the 2nd National Conference on Human Retroviruses and Related Infections, held January 29-February 2, 1995, in Washington, D.C. (early results from the European trials were presented in November 1994 at the Second International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection, held in Glasgow, Scotland).
