Membrane Filter Is Effective in Removing HIV from Fluids

Researchers tested a membrane filter and found it to be effective in removing HIV from fluids that contain serum or serum products.

Kevin H. Oshima, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia, and colleagues, in conjunction with researchers from Scientific Laboratory Services, Pall Corporation, Glen Cove, New York, stated that they investigated using a membrane filter to remove HIV (an 100- to 120-nm spherical virion) from a fluid-containing serum ("Removal of Human Immunodeficiency Virus by an 0.04 {{micro}}m Membrane Filter," Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and Human Retrovirology, 1995;8(1):64-65).
