CDC Warns of Costly Errors in "Window Period" Negatives

The attorney for a woman who wrongly believed for two years that she carried HIV says her case demonstrates the need for attention to the problem of inaccurate tests and their potentially shattering impact.

A U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) official recently underscored the need for accuracy through appropriate re-testing.

"I don't think it's unusual at all," Miami attorney Steve Mitchel said. "Since we got the verdict, I've been contacted by dozens and dozens of people who have had inaccurate test results."
