Nosocomial Transmission of HCV Occurs in Swedish Hospital

Transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) occurred between patients treated in the same hospital setting, despite stringent hygienic control, researchers from Sweden stated.

Such transmission previously was reported in a smaller group of hemodialysis patients, indicated Tobias Allander, and colleagues Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden ("Frequent Patient-to-Patient Transmission of Hepatitis C Virus in a Haematology Ward," the Lancet, March 11, 1995;345:603-607).
