Thomas C. Bailey, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, and colleagues stated that their study presents evidence in favor of a positive relationship between the level of viremia and the presence of CMV pneumonitis and, to a lesser degree, symptomatic infection in patients who have received lung transplants ("Quantitative Analysis of Cytomegalovirus Viremia in Lung Transplant Recipients," the Journal of Infectious Diseases, April 1995;171:1006-1010).
