Positive Relationship Found Between Viremia Level and Pneumonitis

Researchers reported on what they indicated was the first quantitative description of cytomegalovirus (CMV) viremia following lung transplantation.

Thomas C. Bailey, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, and colleagues stated that their study presents evidence in favor of a positive relationship between the level of viremia and the presence of CMV pneumonitis and, to a lesser degree, symptomatic infection in patients who have received lung transplants ("Quantitative Analysis of Cytomegalovirus Viremia in Lung Transplant Recipients," the Journal of Infectious Diseases, April 1995;171:1006-1010).
