Autoantibodies to Non-Muscle Myosin Found in Three Patients

Three patients with chronic liver disease related to hepatitis C virus (HCV) developed autoantibodies that reacted strongly with cytoskeletal fibers of non-muscle cells.

Such autoantibodies to non-muscle myosin heavy chain have not been reported previously in patients with chronic liver diseases, stated C.A. Von Muhlen, W.M. Keck Autoimmune Disease Center, the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California, and colleagues from Japan ("Non-Muscle Myosin As Target Antigen for Human Autoantibodies in Patients with Hepatitis C Virus-Associated Chronic Liver Diseases," Clinical and Experimental Immunology, April 1995;100(1):67-74).
