CDC Advisory Committee Recommendations for Havrix

SmithKline Beecham, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the manufacturer of Havrix (Hepatitis A Vaccine, Inactivated), announced that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has put forth its recommendations for use of Havrix.

An advisory committee to the CDC recommended that persons at risk for hepatitis A virus infection be immunized through vaccination. Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is highly contagious and poses a serious health risk to persons who become infected. HAV causes acute liver disease and debilitating symptoms that can last up to one year.
